Our project 2026-30-89-70, “Stable and Interpretable Band Selection in FTIR Spectra: Machine Learning Based Optimization for Polymer Type Identification,” led by our head of laboratory Assist. Prof. Dr. Ulaş YURTSEVER, has been selected for funding under the Research Universities Support Program (ADEP), supported by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the Presidency of Strategy and Budget. Following peer review, the project was approved by our university's Scientific Research Projects Commission on February 25, 2026, and submitted to YÖK for evaluation. YÖK accepted the project on June 15, 2026.
The project aims to develop methods for selecting spectral bands in a stable and interpretable way for the machine learning-based identification of polymer types from FTIR spectra. The 18-month project, which will start on July 1, 2026, will be carried out in our laboratory.
Prof. Dr. Meral YURTSEVER, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Fatih ADAK, and Res. Asst. Ali Hüsameddin ATEŞ of Sakarya University, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin ÜNAL of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mustafa AKPINAR of the Higher Colleges of Technology in the United Arab Emirates, and Dr. Gabriel BATIN of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca in Romania take part in the project as researchers.
Details of the project are available on our Projects page.
