TÜBİTAK has decided to fund our project 125E196, “Segmentation, Classification, and GIS-Based Monitoring of Coastal Pollution from Drone Imagery Using Deep Learning and Explainable Artificial Intelligence,” led by our head of laboratory Assist. Prof. Dr. Ulaş YURTSEVER, under the TÜBİTAK 1001 – The Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program through the Electrical, Electronics and Informatics Research Support Group (EEEAG).
Bringing together artificial intelligence, marine sciences, environmental sciences, and remote sensing, the project aims to segment, classify, and monitor pollution in coastal areas using drone imagery, deep learning, and explainable artificial intelligence methods, with monitoring carried out through geographic information systems (GIS). The 30-month project, which will start on October 27, 2025, will be carried out in our laboratory.
Prof. Dr. Devrim AKGÜN of Sakarya University and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özgür DOĞRU of Istanbul Technical University take part in the project as researchers, and Prof. Dr. Gülşen ALTUĞ of Istanbul University and Prof. Dr. Meral YURTSEVER of Sakarya University as advisors.
Details of the project are available on our Projects page.
